This is a highly technical senior software engineer role requiring analytical, innovative thinkers to work on a global, distributed component architecture serving millions of users per day for one of the largest eCommerce platforms in the world. We work in nimble, tightly integrated teams to build the products, platforms, services and tools that our customers depend on every day. If you are a self-starter with a passion for technology, eCommerce and are used to writing high-quality code then eBay is the right place for you.
The team is on a mission to revamp how we do Shipping at eBay. Given the vast amount of data at our disposal and the massive number of transactions going through the site daily we are perfectly positioned to optimize for a good buying and selling experience. Here is just a quick glimpse at some of the programs we have in store:
Provide up-to-the-minute delivery estimates for buyers and sellers using data mining and machine learning techniques
Add more end-to-end order fulfillment and shipment solutions for buyers and sellers globally
Focus on reducing cross-border trading obstacles for Asia Pacific region, standardize tracking and labels and reduce operational delays while getting the cheapest rates available.
Design and implement projects throughout all phases of the software development life cycle
Work with engineers and other cross functional teams including Research, Project Management, Quality Assurance, Operations etc. to develop great software that meets market needs with respect to functionality, reliability, performance, scalability
Track business impact of features on a regular basis, and rely on data to make informed decisions about future directions
The usual engineer activities - scoping, prioritizing, planning, bug fixing, site rollout, documentation, having fun
To succeed in this role you must be passionate about being a customer advocate and delivering high-quality designs and components that horizontally scale. You must be creative in solving hard problems in our high scale systems and unafraid to think out-of-the-box.
