Job Summary Functions in a field mechanical engineer capacity at the Columbia Generating Station (CGS) located north of Richland, Washington. Under general supervision, performs all aspects of conventional design/field engineering and analysis, and act as primary in-person contact / liaison for Black & Veatch at the plant. Interface with client on a daily basis regarding ongoing and potential new projects. Ongoing and potential new projects include studies, conceptual designs, estimating, and plant modifications. Must be able to obtain unescorted access to a US nuclear power plant. Key Responsibilities Communicate with the home office engineering team to identify and resolve all engineering related issues in a timely manner. Assists home office personal in resolving problems and in communication with the client. Takes necessary actions to maintain project schedule targets. Develops a stable working relationship with a client personnel including project management, design engineering, system engineering, and administration. Provides supervision, training, development, and performance management to direct reports. Adheres to safety and quality standards as applicable to duties and accountabilities. Supports continuous improvement efforts and the change management effects associated with the implementation of improvements. Attends daily plant status meetings within their assigned department. Maintains access authorization standards and plant requirements for unescorted access to the plant Management Responsibilities Preferred Qualifications Learning on the Fly Problem Solving Intellectual Horsepower Written Communications Drive For Results Informing Listening and Dealing with Ambiguity Intermediate knowledge of engineering design principles and applicable design guides and standards related to assigned engineering discipline Minimum Qualifications Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing. Minimum of 5 years related work experience. All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following:
criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations. Certifications OSHA 10 certification Work Environment/Physical Demands Physical Demands:
o Stand, Kneel, Bend, Stoop, Move, and Walk long distances in and around confined, cluttered places, and uneven areas. o See and hear naturally or with correction. o Full range of motion and flexibility consistent with requirements of the job duties. o May require work above 5 feet in height. o Climb and maintain balance on steel framework, stairs, ladders and scaffolds. Work Environment:
o Typical operating nuclear power plant environment. o Requires working in very hot (above 90 F degrees) or exposure to inclement weather such as dust, wind, rain, etc. o Requires working in extremely bright or low lighting conditions o Includes exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable. o Work around hazardous equipment. o Typical office environment. o Random drug/alcohol screens (client required). o Adhere to a client specified work schedule.
