Position Description
Position Overview:
ROLE: Senior-level Windows OS engineer working in Expedia's Technology Infrastructure organization focusing on managing and maintaining of high-performance, scalable and always-on platforms and environments. Has many skills in common with team members but also provides specialist expertise in different areas.
Working with customers; and ensuring the environment is error free. Mentors others as necessary. Can skillfully navigate tough situations both internally and externally.
Provides strategic influence across groups, projects and products to implement cost-effective technology solutions to solve complex business problems.
Responsibilities:
o Making sure the MS Windows platfrom meets or exceeds organization goals for availability, capacity, efficiency, scalability and performance by engineering reliability into software and systems.
o Manage the infrastructure running production and lab infrastructure.
o Rethink and influence strategy and roadmap to handle ongoing performance, scale, and availability requirements.
o Master the platform so that you can provide end to end troubleshooting to determine the root cause of problems.
o Apply in-depth systems analysis to project-based work, design solutions to issues and evaluate their effectiveness.
o Manage/Deploy Windows file server clusters, DFS and DFS-Replication.
o Maintain Service Level Targets for the services provided.
o Manage External/Internal DNS services and platform.
o Manage WanSync Platform.
o Manage Windows Servers imaging platform (SCCM)
o Provide operational tier 3 support as well as work direct with internal customers.
o Identify and solve complex systems administration issues.
o Identify potential solutions to resolve and prevent future service interruptions.
Qualifications:
o 6-8 years of experience administering heterogeneous environments Microsoft Windows Server 2003 & 2008 environments.
Good understanding of various server applications such as SCCM, SCOM, DNS, Group Policy, Certificates, FTP/SFTP.
Hands on knowledge of Windows Active Directory and DNS in a multi-forest environment. Experience with Infoblox appliances a plus.
Experience with Windows file server clusters, DFS and DFS-Replication. Previous experience with CA ARCserve RHA replication (Wansync) or other content replication software.
Experience with BMC Control-M scheduling software a plus.
Experience with any virtualization technology, VMware prefered.
Working knowledge of Windows Server 2008R2 and Server 2012/R2.
Basic networking skills in Layer 2 and Layer 3 with at least a working knowledge and understanding of the TCP/IP core protocols and functions
Advanced understanding of PowerShell scripting. Other scripting languages (Perl, VBS) and programming languages for automation purposes.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to effectively explain, describe, or convey ideas in individual or group situations.
Highly self-motivated and driven, able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment with minimal direction.
Extensive troubleshooting skills are crucial.
Strong technical documentation skills.
Keen attention to detail.
Strong customer service abilities.
Experience working closely in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
Professional demeanor appropriate for mature enterprise.
Work Experience and Education Guidelines:
-Bachelor''s degree in Computer Science, IT, or equivalent work experience.
-6-8 Years of information technology experience
-Specialized Certifications are a Plus:
MCITP - Server Administrator
MCITP - Enterprise Administrator
MCSA - Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator
MCSE - Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer
-Experienced in the deployment and operation of large scale Windows based platforms in an ecommerce environment.
-Exceptional skills to identify and troubleshoot issues in the environment
-Demonstrated judgment in optimizing among customer needs, business constraints, and technological realities
-Experience in maintaining infrastructure health and hygiene, experience with Patching.
-Demonstrated ability to define and document processes to manage the infrastructure.
-Ability to work well with others both internally within a team and among external teams
